ADHD in Children and Youth

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder—ADHD—is a brain-based disorder that affects about one in ten school-aged children. Many children face academic difficulties and social difficulties, but children with ADHD tend to struggle even more. The most common symptoms of ADHD in children are:

  • Distractibility and lack of focus.

  • Disorganization and forgetfulness.

  • Self-focused behaviour.

  • Hyperactivity and fidgeting.

  • Heightened emotionality and rejection sensitive dysphoria.

  • Impulsivity and poor decision making.

  • Poor concentration and trouble finishing tasks.

No matter how hard they try, they continue to struggle, which often impacts their self-esteem. Fleur is a highly experienced ADHD therapist, who works with both the child and parents, to improve symptoms of ADHD. Fleur strives to help children appreciate their strengths and pay less attention to perceived weaknesses.

Fleur works with children to capitalize on their strengths to overcome challenges, such as time management and organization, planning, setting priorities, mental health (i.e. anxiety, depression), family conflict, and low self-esteem.

Using a variety of therapeutic techniques, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness and solution-focused coaching, Fleur develops individualized approaches to ensure each child develops a path to success. Your child will gain insight into their learning style and the elements they need to manage to succeed at school. Fleur will help your child to get a handle on school assignments and deadlines, and aid them in establishing healthy routines for meals, sleep, and exercise. Contact Fleur for a free consultation.
